Getting Ready
Before you begin, install CHIRP, connect a known good programming cable and verify that your computer can detect the radio.
Reading the Radio
The first step in CHIRP is to download the existing channel layout from the UV 5R so that you have a backup of factory settings.
Editing Channels and Settings
You can then add new repeaters, simplex channels and adjust options such as power level, squelch and scan lists from the spreadsheet style view.
Writing the Image Back
Once changes are complete, upload the new image to the radio and test a few channels on the air to confirm that everything worked as expected.
